With a controversial vote on new taxes looming, the Canadian Taxpayers Federation went on the offensive giving 33 of 45 Toronto council members failing grades in a report card on saving money.

BIG Surprise....Not!

The federation based its grades on how councilors and the mayor voted during this year's budget debate on 12 of Councilor Rob Ford's cost-cutting recommendations. Ford, a city council penny pincher, unsuccessfully urged councilors to do away with their free golf and TTC passes, municipal plant-watering services, free food at council meetings and other expenses.

"To me, it's like Nero fiddled while Rome burned and council golfs while Toronto taxpayers burn," said Kevin Gaudet of the taxpayers federation. City council was to vote on the imposition of a controversial land transfer tax and a new $60-a-year vehicle registration fee. If both are approved, the new levies will yield the city $360 million annually.

The taxes were approved and this will encourage people to purchase homes outside the Toronto border and affect the auto industry which is already hurting. Do Miller and his cronies care about you the Torontonian? Get real and put down your crack pipe...you are only the vehicle to help them spend more money.

"These results are a proxy for the fact that there isn't a single example of the city or council being prepared to reduce spending or perks from their own budgets," said Gaudet.

Mayor David Miller has repeatedly defended council's spending, maintaining that his government operates efficiently.

"This city government - time and again - proves that our expenditures are in line," Miller said yesterday. "The City of Toronto's expenditures over the past decade have increased 4% a year. The federal government's (expenditures) have increased 8%; the provinces have increased almost 8%. That's the fact."

He noted that Toronto councilors earn less than their counterparts in suburban Mississauga.

Toronto councilors received an 8.9% pay hike this year, driving up their annual salaries from $87,214 to $95,000. Mayor David Miller's yearly earnings jumped from $147,856 to $160,000.

Mississauga councilors are paid $122,612 annually and receive a yearly car allowance of $17,300. Mayor Hazel McCallion earns $174,412 a year.

David Miller is a Prick who time and again has exhibited an elitist attitude and placed himself above the average Torontonian. The next time you think he's not so bad ask yourself who gives you free golf, TTC and food?

Not much will ever change as Canadians are primarily Sheep who never protest as long as they have their beer and their hockey!
